Curse: The Eye Of Isis Review

How can a survival horror game be so boring? The name of this game is Curse: The Eye of Isis which came out on Xbox and PlayStation 2 but the PlayStation 2 port was released only in Europe. How could a horror game turn out to be so bland?

You will only be encountering a few different types of enemies. You will encounter offices that are dead but a yellow mist will bring them back to life. If the mist resurrects someone, they will attack you. Something else that will affect your character is the yellow mist itself. If you walk through an area that has yellow mist, it will drain your health. Once you progress into the game, you will come across mummies and people trying to steal The Eye of Isis, an artifact.

When you find smelling salts lying around, it’s a good idea to pick them up because smelling salts are what you use to refill your health. One smelling salt could refill half of your health.

You aren’t defenseless against the enemies trying to kill you. At first, you will find a truncheon that you can beat enemies with. Later in the game, you will get a rifle although you have to hold the aim button down for a few seconds before each shot as the cursor closes in on your enemy.

As you go through the game, you will meet a man named Abdul who worked with your father and has heard about you. The only way Abdul can help you is to save your game. You will run into Abdul in different locations throughout the game.

Some of the puzzles could not be easier to figure out. You use a rusty crank to swing a pendulum that breaks a door you couldn’t get in otherwise. The library has secret pathways you can uncover.

I have nothing bad to say about the controls. They all work when they are supposed to and none of the controls are complicated so the controls are fine in this game.

The story of the game is based on the artifact called the Eye of Isis. Someone broke into the museum and tried to steal the artifact. A yellow mist came out of this artifact and started possessing dead people. You find letters and journal entries from your father and there was a lot of preparation going on for the artifact.

The graphics are average at best. While they’re not bad for XBox standards, they’re not going to impress anyone either. Everything in the game has a dull look to it. This is one reason why the game feels boring.

The same can be said about the sound. No one sounds like they are reading their lines but there isn’t a lot of dialogue in the game and what dialogue is in the game won’t make the story appear to be more interesting.

The game is fun for a little while and you’re not going to get stuck in the game right away. The controls are fine, I have no problem with the controls. The story makes sense but the graphics and sound make the game seem boring. So I give Curse: The Eye of Isis on the XBox 5 out of 10. This game was being sold for $20 when it first came out. The game has shot up in price in the last couple of years but this game is not worth tracking down to play.
