Life Is Strange Review

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure just came out and this would mark the fifth game in the Life Is Strange series. With Life Is Strange: Double Exposure coming out, why not look at where the game began? In 2016, Life Is Strange came out on the Xbox One, and eight years later, the fifth game has come out. What made Life Is Strange so great in the first place?

In Life Is Strange, the gameplay does have some unique aspects. You do come across other characters and get to choose how you react to those characters which is seen in other games. What is unique is that you can rewind time to have the same event play out but get different results. This could be getting a bully and her friends to stand near a paint can that you know will fall so the bully gets splashed with paint when the paint can does fall. You also end up using the power of rewinding time to save the life of Chloe.

When you choose to rewind time, you will still remember how events played out the first time, and any items you collected, you will still have in your inventory. This is how you save Chloe in the bathroom at the beginning of the game or keep her from getting run over by a train.

The story of Life Is Strange starts with Max walking to a lighthouse in the middle of a storm and the next thing she knows, she is in photography class. When Max goes to the bathroom, she attempts to stop a girl from getting murdered and when Max attempts this is how she learns she can rewind time.

Little does Max know she saved the life of her friend Chloe which she hasn’t seen or talked to in the last four to five years since Max moved away. The story continues to be engaging as you play the game and I like the story.

There are times later in the game when Max learns if she focuses on a photograph, she can go back in time to when that photograph was taken. Of course, Max had to be there when the photo was taken but she doesn’t have to be in the photo to accomplish going back to that time.

When it comes to the graphics, they are darker than some of the sequels. However, one noticeable problem was the lip-syncing. It seems to make sure the characters ‘ syncing being matched up when they were speaking seemed not to be a priority in this game. The voices and the music in the game, and would not change anything about the sound.

So the gameplay is fun and it’s easy to play. I have no problems with the controls. The story was engaging and I wanted to see how the story would play out. The lip-syncing was bad in some parts but other than that, I love the graphics and sound. There is replayability because you can make different choices and see how other characters react to you with different choices. So I give Life Is Strange on Xbox One 9 out of 10. The bad lip-syncing was noticeable in a few parts but I still love this game and recommend it to anyone who hasn’t played it.
