Every major console has franchises that are the icons for their specific console. Nintendo has Mario, Link, and Kirby. Sony had Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Lara Croft. Microsoft has Master Chief from Halo. But a new franchise that represents XBox could be Gears Of War. Some franchises have one great game and then the rest could be middle of the road at best. Gears Of War had two games then they released the third. Would Gears Of War 3 have the same quality as the earlier games or is this the entry where things fell off?

The gameplay is a lot of fun whether you are playing alone or online with friends. In the campaign, you could shoot from a zipline or choose different paths to go when you have more than one option on how to progress. Most of the gameplay is shooting enemies with different types of guns until they die or explode. Two players can play the campaign in split-screen or four players can play the campaign online. If you don’t have anybody to team with, the campaign is still worth going solo because your teammates are still a big help in taking out enemies and reviving you even if you are playing with bots.

In addition to the campaign, there are multiplayer modes also. You can play the Horde mode which gives you waves of enemies and as you defeat waves of enemies, you earn currency which you can purchase things like traps and distractions to help you against later waves. If you are not a big fan of fighting wave after wave of enemies, you can jump into versus multiplayer like team deathmatch, capture the captain, and execution are just a few of the different types of gameplay modes available in multiplayer. There are ten different maps you can play on so there is a lot to do in this game besides the campaign.

When you play the campaign, it is not a hard campaign to complete. One reason is that if you are playing the game alone with bots controlling your allies, your allies still know what they are doing. It’s very easy to progress through the campaign so it’s on the easier side when it comes to the difficulty.

The controls are great for this game. If you never played a Gears Of War game then you do not need to worry because the controls do not take a long time to get the hang of. So there is nothing I would change about the controls.

The story starts with Marcus Fenix when he disobeys orders trying to save his father. Fenix was unsuccessful and he got cour mashalled for life. However, Fenix finds out from the former chairman who has been gone for about a year that Fenix’s father is still alive. When Prescott is dying after an attack, he gives Fenix encryption to a disc that Colonel Hoffman has and Marcus finds out where his father is being held, so he and his crew can rescue Marcus’ father.

I have no problems with the graphics. The environments change up and everyone who returns from a previous Gears Of War game looks like you would expect them to. I also love the sound. Whether it’s the dialogue between your squad which got me to chuckle multiple times, or it’s the music that plays during levels or the sound effects of shooting enemies that makes the shooting so satisfying. So there is nothing I would change about the sound.

With all the multiplayer in this game, there is much to do once you finish the campaign. You could play this game in online multiplayer for months and not get bored. So once you finish the campaign, there is a lot of replayability which will continue to bring you back to Gears Of War 3.

So the gameplay is a lot of fun and the single-player campaign is pretty easy to get through although it will take about 8 or 9 hours to complete. I have no problem with the controls. The story is interesting and it doesn’t take long to pull you in I have no problems with the graphics and sound. There is also replayability once you finish the campaign. So I give Gears Of War 3 on Xbox 360 10 out of 10. I can’t think of one way to make this game better. If you have an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One, you should have this game in your collection because this game is backward compatible with Xbox One.
