Dead Rising 2: Case West Review

When the first Dead Rising came out, Frank West became a favorite video game character of many people. Some people were disappointed when Dead Rising 2 came out and the protagonist of that story was Chuck Greene. But what would happen in a game where Frank West and Chuck Greene teamed up in a zombie killing experience? Would people love this idea or should the idea have never evolved into a game?

Dead Rising 2: Case West came out near the end of December in 2010 and it’s a game based on Dead Rising 2. Instead of a mall, you are running around a science laboratory overrun by zombies but even though you aren’t in a mall, you still have plenty of weapon to beat zombies with and you can get guns from guards trying to stop you once you take them out.

There are scientists that you can rescue and once you get to them, they know where to go to be safe so you don’t have to accompany them to safety. Chuck Greene starts off at level 40 and you still earn prestige points for every 50 enemies you kill and rescuing people who are trapped by zombies.

One difference is you have Frank West helping you. A second player can join in via XBox Live and control Frank West. If somebody online is not playing with you then Frank will be controlled by A.I. If you want to play as Frank West then you have to join a different player’s game via XBox Live.

The controls are the same as they were in Dead Rising 2. I didn’t recognize any differences in the controls from the original game and nothing needed to be changed.

The story of the game picks up at the end of the original Dead Rising 2. In the ending where the woman from CURE and your daughter escape but you got left behind, you got attacked by TK who turned into a zombie. As you are trying to keep TK from biting you, somebody bashes TK in the head from behind and that person is Frank West. Frank West starts to help you up but then recognizes you as the persob being blamed for the zombie outbreak. You claim you were set up and Frank is trying to get the truth. He invites you to come with him claiming if you were set up, you may find evidence clearing your name but if Frank finds out you were behind this situation, he will take you out himself.

The graphics for the game are mostly fine. The reason I say that is because the environment doesn’t change up. You are in a lab and while there are different rooms like a cafeteria, bathroom and offices but you are looking at the same location throguhout the entire game.

I have no problems with the sound. Frank sounds like he did in the first Dead Rising and Chuck sounds like the did in the original game. The only other sound happens in cutscenes. When you talk to people that you rescued, you don’t hear them say anything because all their lines are in text.

This is a short game. There are only three case files and the entire game can be completed in a couple of hours. Once you beat it, the only reason to go back is if you didn’t get the best ending or if you want to join somebody else’s game so you can play as Frank West.

The gameplay is fun and it’s easy in the beginning but it doesn’t take long for the difficulty to increase. The controls are fine and they’re the same as in Dead Rising 2. The stroy makes sense where the game leads and the graphics may get boring since the whole game takes place in one locatiol and the sound is fine. So I give Dead Rising 2: Case West on the XBox 360 7 out of 10. It’s worth it to play through once but after you finish the short story in this game, unless you want to join somebody else’s game as Frank, there’s no reason to play this game again.
