Red Dead Redemption Review

Red Dead Redemption was released for the PlayStation 3 in the middle of May 2010. Red Dead Redemption is the sequel to the game Red Dead Revolver.

Red Dead Redemption has the same gameplay as a current Grand Theft Auto game but with the setting taking place in the Wild West. This does not make the game boring at all. You do have to either ride a horse or a stagecoach taxi to get where you have to go if you don’t want to walk. One benefit is that if you have got separated from your horse and the horse has not died, you can call for your horse to come to meet you where you are. Besides the missions with the main storyline, you can help strangers, and play games like Poker, Blackjack, and horseshoes. You also can buy and rent the property so you have a place to save your progress.

The game is pretty easy. Anyone who has played a current Grand Theft Auto game will have no problem playing Red Dead Redemption right away. A lot of missions including races are easy to complete on your first try. However as easy as the game is, that does not mean everything can be completed on the first try. Some missions do require a few tries. The only hard thing was figuring out how to compete in a duel.

The controls are the same as a current Grand Theft Auto game with few exceptions. Calling your horse to come to meet you is just one button and the only way to switch the weapon you arm yourself with has to be picked from the weapons menu when you pause the game. Those are the only notable differences when it comes to the controls.

The story of the game is you control a guy named John Marston and you have to bring in someone you used to ride with. At the beginning of the game when you give your former partner a chance to go with you willingly, he and his gang shoot you down and leave you for dead. Luckily for you, a woman and her father discover you and help you heal. The gameplay starts though as soon as you get off the train when you travel to where your former partner is. From there you still have to ride to the fort your partner and his gang are hiding out.

The graphics and sound were done wonderfully. Everything looks like you are in the wild wild west. Everybody sounds like they should and are living in the situation you see. The sound effects are also appropriate for the situation.

The game does last a fair while to beat and there is a multiplayer option online that extends the replayability of the game. The game will not be beaten in a few hours so it does stay true to a Grand Theft Auto game when the playtime of the single-player game is evaluated.

I give Red Dead Redemption for the Playstation 3 a 9 out of 10. I didn’t learn how to shoot in a duel until much further in the game. I was getting challenged to duel before I learned how to shoot when it comes to a duel. The part where you learn to duel is the only thing I did not like about this game.
