Deer Drive Review

Hunting games have become more popular in recent years. Now you can find hunting games on most consoles and hunting games can be played from the comfort of your home which wasn’t always the case. The reason this is bought up is because the subject of this review is Deer Drive on the Nintendo Wii. Is Deer Drive a hunting game that should be given a chance?

In the single-player mode, you see deer run across the screen and the objective is to kill the required amount of animals within the time limit. In the first level, you will only start with deer but as you advance into further levels, you will see bears, moose, lions, and other animals. Bears will come for you and if they make it to you, they will kill you and you start the level all over again.

There is a competitive player mode where two players can play a level at the same time but the level isn’t as populated as it is in the single-player mode but two players shoot animals at the same time with both players trying to get the highest score. There is also a hunting party where two to four players take turns playing a level one at a time to determine who can get the higher score.

The game starts easy but it doesn’t take long before it gets difficult. While animals like grizzlies and moose will count as qualified kills, female deer won’t. You can also get upgrades but even after you unlock these upgrades, you have to kill a specific animal with the upgrade above their head and the upgrade only lasts for a brief moment.

This game supports the Wii Zapper but if you don’t have one, you can play this game with the Wiimote. You aim by pointing the Wimmote at the TV screen but it seems too easy to accidentally aim up at the sky or down at the ground which could leave you open to attacks from grizzlies or other animals. I just feel the controls are a little too sensitive and cause you to look up or look down.

The graphics for the Wii are fine. The animals look believable but the environments don’t change up that much. I also don’t have anything bad to say about the sound.

Deer Drive is fun to play but it doesn’t take long before the game can become difficult. The controls are mostly fine, but I felt it was too easy to aim up in the sky or down at the ground even if you didn’t want to. The graphics are fine although the woods look boring after a while and I have no problems with the sound. So I give Deer Drive on the Nintendo Wii a 7 out of 10. If you like these types of games then you should check it out especially if you have enough people to play the party mode with. If you don’t care about hunting games, you won’t care about this game either.
