Regarding video games based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, many reviewers online cover the games released for Nintendo and Super Nintendo. However, many people overlook the Game Boy trilogy. The first game in this trilogy is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan. Is Fall of the Foot Clan a game that should be overlooked or is it a hidden gem on the Game Boy?

The levels are side-scrolling as you fight off soldiers from the foot clan and other enemies while getting past obstacles like platforms. There are five levels with every level having a few different areas before you reach a boss. The first boss is Rocksteady, then Bebop, Baxter Stockman, and Shredder. The fifth level is supposedly Krang although I have never reached the boss of the fifth level.

When you die as a ninja turtle, that ninja turtle is captured and then you are directed back to the turtle select level but the ninja turtles that have been captured will not be eligible to be chosen. You only get one life with each ninja turtle. I have heard that if your ninja turtle has been captured and you complete the level, you will get a ninja turtle back but I have not seen that happen.

In these levels, you will come across slices of pizza and pizza pies. A slice of pizza will restore some health for your turtle while a pizza pie will restore all your health for your turtle. Your health will also refill at the beginning of every level.

The controls could not be more simple. You use the d-pad to move and one button attacks your enemies while the other button jumps. You can choose which button does which to fit your playing style.

The story of the game is really simple. It starts that April O’Neal has been kidnapped by the Foot Clan and the ninja turtles have to rescue her. After every level, you get another cutscene progressing the story. You can start on any of the five levels you want but I have heard that if you don’t play through all the levels from level one, you won’t get the full ending when you complete the fifth level.

I have no problems with the graphics. All the levels look different and you can tell the difference between each boos because they look detailed so you won’t confuse Rocksteady for Bebop or anything like that so there is nothing I would change about the graphics.

When you start to get low on health, you will hear a beeping noise a few times to let you know that your health is low. Other than that, music plays during the levels and I have no problem with any of the music.

Once you finish the game, there is no reason to replay it again unless you didn’t start from stage one and you want to get the full story or if you want to go through the game again because it’s a fun game to play.

The game is fun to play although the difficulty could be a little more fair. I have no problems with the controls. It does suck that you don’t get the full ending of the story if you didn’t play the game straight through from stage one. I have no problems with the graphics or sound and I must admit there is no replayability. So I give Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan on Game Boy 8 out of 10. If you have a Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP, or a Super Game Boy to play Game Boy games on the Super Nintendo then you should pick up this game.
