Re-Volt is a racing game on Nintendo 64 and the popular opinion is that it is worse than Extreme-G which is another racing game on the Nintendo 64. Now Extreme-G was not a good game, so is it possible that Re-Volt is worse on the Nintendo 64?

There are different cars to choose from but there is one thing you have to keep in mind regardless of which car you pick. You are going to flip over when you go through these tracks and the game doesn’t let you know how to flip your car right side up so you can continue the race.

You can pick up lightning bolts as you go through these tracks and some of those lightning bolts are weapons to use on opposing racers. The problem with these weapons is they all have a short range. If you are close enough to use a weapon effectively, then you would have been close enough to take the lead without using a weapon. What good is a weapon in a race that you have to be so close to use when if you were that close, you wouldn’t have needed the weapon in the first place?

Another problem with the races in this game is the tracks. These tracks are some of the most confusing tracks I have ever seen. When you flip over, you can also get turned around. The first track I raced on was bad enough but I had no idea what the second track was supposed to be.

There are more gameplay modes like a track editor and a stunt race but they aren’t any more fun than the races. So what value do these modes have when the races are not fun?

I have no problem with the controls. It would be nice if the game let you know there is a button to flip your vehicle over if you need to but other than that, I don’t have any problem with the controls.

The graphics are fine. The cars don’t look ugly and while the tracks are confusing, I have seen tracks that look worse in other games like Extreme-G. The music during races is forgettable and I have no problems with the sound effects.

So the gameplay is not fun and these races are difficult but for the wrong reasons. The controls are fine except for the game not letting you know about the button that could flip you over if you accidentally flipped over from going through these tracks. I have no problems with the graphics or sound but I give Re-Volt on the Nintendo 64 3 out of 10. If you want to play racing games on the Nintendo 64, stick to games like Mario Kart 64 or Destruction Derby 64. Re-Volt is not worth playing.
