Gaming Continues To Get More Expensive

When Sega left the console business, you had three choices as a console gamer. You could get systems from Nintendo, Sony, or the new competitor at the time: Microsoft. The benefit was that if you did not like the pricing or drawbacks of one console, you still had two other options. While all three companies are still making consoles, it doesn’t matter if all three companies are trying to squeeze every penny out of every customer.

Nintendo said their successor to the Switch will cost $450, and physical copies of games could be as much as $90. Sony released the PlayStation 5 Pro with no stand or disc drive at $700, and they still plan on the PlayStation 6 to come out in a few years. Microsoft wants all its games to come out on competitor platforms, which begs the question: Why get an Xbox? If you want to play Xbox franchises, they’ll be on the PlayStation soon enough.

Regardless of which console you play on, gaming is getting more expensive. People still aren’t happy about games going up to $70, and now Nintendo wants Triple-A titles to be released at $90 for the base version of the game. Other publishers want Grand Theft Auto 6 to cost more than $70 at launch for the base version, so other publishers will feel confident when they raise the prices of their games.

When you bring this up, some people will say Just invest in a gaming PC. Many people don’t have the know-how to put one together ot the money to purchase one from the store. I may sound like a broken record at this point, but retro gaming on older consoles looks like the better version all the time. If you choose to play on the Super Nintendo or Nintendo GameCube and don’t already own the console, you may end up spending a couple of hundred dollars, but it’s still cheaper than the price of consoles and games coming out today.

How do you feel about Gaming today? Are you tempted to go back to those games that you always wanted to play but never got to? Which console do you plan to play on for the near future?
